Report from the Workshop on the Gift of Mindful Meditation and Yoga 14 June 2008

"Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46.10)

Mindfulness Day

Christian Meditation, Mindfulness and Mindful Movement on June 14th at Heatherwood was certainly a day to remember. Twenty -six women answered a calling to join this day of mindfulness, movement and stillness. There was much fellowship, praise, laughter and tears as people explored how they lost many moments, hours and even years of their lives by living in the past, worrying about the future and being anywhere but in the present. The workshop (led by Dr Suzanne Heywood-Everett -Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Hannah Evans -Assistant Psychologist) enabled people to experience guided meditations to learn how to bring their full attention, without judgement, into the present moment. Thus enabling people to experience a quality of peace, humility and stillness and an opportunity to renew the spiritual relationship with God through the practice know as 'pure prayer' or the 'prayer of the heart'. People were encouraged to continue this practice twice daily for 20 minutes to benefits from the 'fruits of meditation'.

Romans 8: 26, "..we do not know how to pray but the spirit himself prays within us"

Mindful movement was led by Nina Dhiman (Clinical Psychologist) and participants had an opportunity to stay in the present with stretching and gentle movement, bringing kindness and awareness to their bodies. The lunch and refreshments were provided by Noah's Ark - who surpassed themselves with a wonderful vegetarian buffet with amples of fresh fruit. The day ended with movement outside Heatherwood Barn on the grass in the sunshine. Calender Girls eat your hearts out!!
